Former Illini Luther Head Named to USA Basketball Select Team
 

 
Former Illini All-American guard Luther Head has been named to the USA Basketball Select Team.

Champaign, Ill. - Close friends and former Illinois basketball stars will reunite on the court later this month as Luther Head helps prepare Deron Williams and the U.S. Olympic squad for a gold-medal run. Head, the former Illini All-American guard and current Houston Rocket, is one of 10 players named to the 2008 USA Basketball Men's Select Team that has been chosen to ready the USA Senior National Team for the Beijing Summer Olympics. Joining Head on the USA Select Team are LaMarcus Aldridge, Kevin Durant, Jeff Green, Al Horford, Andre Iguodala, Kevin Martin, O.J. Mayo, Derrick Rose and Rodney Stuckey.

The Select squad begins training in Las Vegas on July 20 and will scrimmage against the USA Senior National Team from July 21-24. Williams and his U.S. teammates conclude training in Las Vegas on July 25, facing the Canadian National Team in the State Farm USA Basketball Challenge. Prior to arriving in Beijing on Aug. 6, the U.S. will play four games between July 31-Aug. 5 that are part of the USA Basketball International Challenge in Macao and Shanghai. The Olympics are scheduled for Aug. 10-24.

Time Set for Illinois-Clemson ACC/Big Ten Challenge Game
ESPN has announced the start times and television designations for the 2008 ACC/Big Ten Challenge games. All 11 games will be televised once again this season, with four airing on ESPN, five on ESPN2 and two on ESPNU. Illinois' home game vs. Clemson on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 6:30 p.m. will be shown on ESPN2.
