Illini Tie Iowa for Ninth at Lady Northern

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Illinois finished the Lady Northern tied for ninth after carding a final round 305 on Sunday at the 6,300-yard, par 72 Penn State University Blue Course. Seniors Seul Ki Park (81-75-73-229) and Kristine Cook (85-79-73-237) each recorded a 1-over 73 to lead the Orange and Blue in the final round. Illinois and Iowa each ended the tournament with a 54-hole total of 929, only five strokes behind seventh place teams, Wisconsin and Eastern Michigan. Park led the Illini with a tournament total of 229, tying her for 18th overall. Senior Stephanie Mory (77-75-81-233) tied for 29th, and was followed by Cook, tying for 51st. Senior Kristin Kallergis (79-86-78-243) and junior Nancy Featherstone (79-81-87-247) tied for 67th and 71st, respectively. Freshman Raquel Hopton (84-79-82-245) placed 69th in her first collegiate tournament. Park and Cook's 1-over 73 each rank as the team-low rounds for the tournament and the season. Kent State (287-298-293-878) finished five strokes ahead of Michigan State (290-296-297-883) to win the tournament. The top five included three other Big Ten teams, Indiana (295-307-298-900), Ohio State (303-307-295-905), and Northwestern (307-299-303-909). Kent State's Kira Meixner (66-73-73-212) earned medalist honors with a 4-under 212, edging out Laura Kueny (75-69-71-215) of Michigan State by three strokes.
