Vicki Brown named Honorable Mention All-Big Ten
Nov. 28, 2006 Champaign, Ill. - Illinois junior middle blocker Vicki Brown has been named honorable mention All-Big Ten. The native of Toledo, Ohio, ranked second on the Illini with 352 kills while leading the club with a .324 attack percentage. Brown displayed her powerful swings at the State Farm Illini Classic where she earned Tournament MVP honors after posting 45 kills, nine blocks and hitting .413. She earned MVP honors at the Marquette Kickoff Tournament after hitting a robust .514 on the weekend. She was also named all-tourney at the UNC Volleyball Classic in Chapel Hill, N.C. Brown had double figures in kills in 21 matches, including a career-best 24 kills vs. Wichita State on Sept. 9. She also hit a career-best .667 with 18 kills vs. Ole Miss on Sept. 1 and finished the year ninth in Big Ten in hitting percentage. Brown added a team-best 111 blocks to along with her 362 kills and 78 digs. Redshirt sophomore outside hitter Kayani Turner earned the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, which is given to one player from every Big Ten squad. Turner led the Big Ten through most of the season in kills while also ranking as high as 14th nationally in that department. Her bout with Reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome (RSD) resurfaced during the season, causing Turner to miss three matches all together and see limited time most of the second half of the Big Ten season. Still Turner managed to rank fifth in the conference in kills per game (4.49) and sixth in the league in points per game (4.94). She led the Illini in total kills with 391 and was named to the All-Tournament Team at the State Farm Illini Classic and the Marquette Kickoff Tournament.
